The
Mountain Pine Beetle is invading Alberta much faster than anticipated.
In early April 2007, the Government of Alberta declared a state
of emergency for provincial forests, in relation to beetle infestations. As
the beetle continues its spread across our region, the Grande
Alberta Economic Region is working to help our communities prepare
for the potential impacts of beetle invasion.
The
GAER Mountain Pine Beetle Initiative is working to assess
the economic, environmental and social risks of the beetle to
our region and to develop an action plan so our communities
can create viable, vibrant futures!
