Begin your visit to the area by stopping at the Grande Cache Tourism and Interpretive Centre. Here you will find a number of intriguing displays interpreting the area's geological development, spectacular natural history, and early beginnings. Step into the past by taking a historical driving tour (brochure available at the Tourism and Interpretive Centre). Visit Pierre Grey's Trading Post, where ruins depict early fur trading days. Step even further back in time and explore one of the world's best sites for dinosaur tracks at Smoky River Coal Ltd. Make sure you bring your camera if you visit Willmore Wilderness Park! It's one of the largest protected areas in Alberta, with more than 700 kilometres of trails. There are many places to observe mountain wildlife, discover alpine wildflowers, or enjoy a picnic with an awe-inspiring view. Camping, golfing, cycling, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing all add up to summer fun. Discover Grande Cache all over again in the winter by strapping on some cross-country skis! You can choose from groomed cross-country trails or more secluded backcountry areas. There are also plenty of places to explore by snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle. Grande Cache runs a number of special events ranging from family recreation to extreme challenge sports. The Canadian Death Race involves two separate competitions—a foot race and a mountain bike race, over 125 kilometres of gruelling mountain trails. Other Tourism Resources |
